Telecommunications Case Study (1 of 2)

Executable modeling in the re-development of a complex mainframe system.
Customer
A major US telecommunications corporation
System
A network engineering management system.
Objective
To confirm requirements and re-develop a core sub-system of about 300,000 lines of code of the existing application.
Model size
37 objects and 52 events.
Benefits

Review of the executable model with domain experts revealed subtle but significant misunderstandings of the system requirements early in the development.

Executable modeling was used to explore the capability of different models to support complex functionality. The chosen model formed the basis for radical simplification of a complex system design. The simplified design yielded performance improvements and was found to be easy to maintain and enhance in production.

The executable model was used to train new project members and reduced on-boarding time.
